On the first day, when we arrived at Norwood Hall, the school canteen, our exchange partners were really nice showing us around. After having dinner, we went to our boarding houses and met our housemasters and housemistresses. 

On the following day, we learnt the British study method from the inside, by attending lessons. We were really surprised that they just had three or four subjects to work on throughout the whole year, as in Spain we have eleven. We went home on the same day and met their families. Some of them lived in the countryside, and others had houses in London. They were really kind to us, such as taking us to visit the city centre, shopping or going out for dinner. Some of us were lucky to be invited to a birthday party, others had the chance to go hunting. They gave us the opportunity to taste Sunday roast, typical English food. We were back at the boarding houses by nine on Sunday evening. 

We started the week by attending lessons again and having nice hot chocolate or coffee at break time. We had the chance to meet a retired professor, who showed us the school archives, the school´s history since it was first built, and how the town of Marlborough has developed from its origins. We had a few prep sessions from 7:30 to 9 in the evening to do our homework and study. 

On Wednesday we went on a day trip to London, which took us more than two hours due to heavy traffic. Once there, we popped onto the open bus tour near Victoria Station and had a very instructive tour of the city. We got off at Wesminster Bridge to go to the London Dungeon, next to the London Eye. There we had a thrilling experience, learning while having fun. Then we went shopping in Oxford Street and finally back to school.  

The following night we had a School Variety Event called Illumination at Memorial Hall, where we had the pleasure to see the participants’ talents and their performances such as dancing, singing or acting. On Friday we had a guided tour of Avebury museum and Stones. 

The next remarkable trip was to Oxford on Saturday, where we visited the Ashmolean Museum and had free time to go shopping. After coming back and having supper, we had a disco session at The Marlburian where we danced and had lots of fun. The exchange was really worthwhile because we improved our English and  learnt to interact and live with other students in boarding houses.  It was an amazing experience and we learnt about British customs, traditions and food.

Doce alumnos de Primero de Bachillerato disfrutamos de doce días de intercambio en el Marlborough College

El grupo, a cargo de la Profesora de Inglés Miss Carmen, convivió con sus compañeros en las instalaciones del prestigioso colegio británico

El primer día llegamos a Norwood Hall, la cafetería del colegio, donde nos esperaban nuestros compañeros, que fueron muy amables al acompañarnos a hacer una visita por las instalaciones. Después de la cena nos trasladamos a las casas donde residimos estos días para conocer a los encargados de los alumnos internos y descansar.

El día siguiente aprendimos cómo es el Sistema Educativo Británico desde el interior y de la forma más directa, yendo a clase. Nos sorprendió que sólo tuviesen tres o cuatro materias de estudio a lo largo de todo el curso, mientras en España tenemos once. Ese mismo día, viernes, fuimos a casa de nuestros colegas, algunos en el campo y otros en Londres, y conocimos a sus familias. Fueron muy amables y se ofrecieron a acompañarnos a visitar el centro de la ciudad, ir de compras o salir a cenar. Algunos de nosotros pudimos asistir a la celebración de un cumpleaños, otros de salir de caza. Tuvimos la oportunidad de probar el “Sunday Roast”, una comida típica inglesa, y a las 9 de la noche ya estábamos de vuelta en nuestras casas.

Empezamos la semana asistiendo a clase de nuevo y tomando un reconfortante chocolate, o café, a la hora del recreo. Tuvimos un encuentro con un profesor retirado que  nos enseñó los archivos del colegio, que contiene la historia del colegio desde su fundación y del desarrollo de la ciudad de Marlborough desde sus orígenes. Tuvimos un par de horas de preparación desde las 7:30 hasta las 9:00 de la noche para poner a punto nuestras tareas y estudiar.

El miércoles fuimos de excursión a Londres por todo el día, aunque fueron más de dos horas de camino debido al tráfico. Una vez en la ciudad hicimos un instructivo tour en un autobús abierto. Comenzamos cerca de Victoria Station y nos bajamos en el Puente de Wesminster, para conocer las Mazmorras de Londes cerca de la famosa noria “London Eye”. Tras esta enriquecedora experiencia tuvimos tiempo libre para hacer algunas compras y disfrutar de Oxford Street.

La noche siguiente asistimos a la actividad “School Variety Event” llamada “Illumination at Memorial Hall”, donde tuvimos el placer de ser testigos del talentos de los participantes y de sus actuaciones, como la danza, pequeñas obras teatrales o sus dotes como cantantes.

El sábado viajamos a Oxford, donde visitamos el Ashmolean Museum y algo más de tiempo libre. Llegamos directos para tomar nuestra cena e ir de disco a The Marlburian, donde bailamos y disfrutamos de los últims suspiros del viaje.

En definitiva este intercambio ha sido fantástico, mejoramos nuestro inglés y aprendimos a convivir y relacionarnos con los demás estudiantes con los que pasamos estos días. Fue una experiencia fantástica, aprendiendo costumbres, tradiciones e incluso sobre la comida Británica.
